About the Cape Sebastian Rocky Shore Area

Description
The Cape Sebastian headland and associated rocky shoreline is located approximately six miles south of Gold Beach, in Curry County, Oregon.
  Designation
The beaches and rocky shores of Oregon are part of Oregon’s Ocean Shore Recreation Area and the offshore rocks and islands are part of the Oregon Islands National Wildlife Refuge.
     
Key Resources
Harbor seals use the associated offshore rocks to haulout and there are a large number of seabirds that also use these rocks and islands.
  What can you do here?
Whale watching, sightseeing, tidepooling, beachcombing and hiking are popular activities here.

Getting to the Rocky shore at Cape Sebastian

A small rock intertidal area at Hunters Cove is accessible via a 2-mile long hike down a primitive (and somewhat difficult) trail from the top of the cape or along the beach (approximately . 5 miles) from a pull off, off HWY 101 to the south of the park. Access is also possible to the north end of the cape from the beach from residential streets, the “333 trail” from the North Cape Sebastian parking area or from Buena Vista Ocean State wayside, even further north.

Who Owns this Site?
Submerged and submersible (intertidal) lands: Division of State Lands; rocks above Mean High Water: U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The uplands are owned and managed by Oregon Parks and Recreation Department as Cape Sebastian State Scenic Corridor.
  Who Manages this Site?
Oregon Parks and Recreation Department manages the ocean shore recreation area. The majority of the uplands are owned and managed by Oregon Parks and Recreation Department as Cape Sebastian State Scenic Corridor. Offshore rocks are managed by USFWS as part of the Oregon Islands National Wildlife Refuge.
