Description:

Abstract:
This dataset contains both passable and impassable barriers to anadromous salmonid migration for the state of Oregon. Most records occur in the western
portion of the state. Information on the impassble or partially passable barrier
can be found in the related table: bar_pts.fb.
Dams are found in a separate dataset.

Purpose:
To identify geographic locations of barriers that may impede or block the migration of anadromous salmonids. This data is used to further refine
the anadromous salmonid distribution datasets.

Supplemental Information:
Procedures_Used The ODFW barrier database has been developed over the past several
years primarily through the compilation of data from published reports.
Additional records have been added based on input from ODFW district
biologists based on their best professional judgement of the type, location
and height of barriers. The data were compiled in database format with
event table compatibility. Stream route identifiers (llid) and a river mile
locational measure of the barrier were recorded so that a GIS point
dataset could be easily created. The event records were converted into
Arc Info coverage format with the EVENTSOURCE and EVENTPOINT
commands.

Revisions:
This is the second version of barrier data in GIS format to be released by
ODFW.

All barriers contained in this dataset have been reviewed by ODFW district
biologist staff at least once.

Related_Spatial_and_Tabular_Data_Sets:
The fish barrier table tracks position and blockage extent of each barrier
relative to species specific distribution. Name = Bar_pts.fb

Many barriers are known to be absent from this dataset, especially culverts. Additionally, this dataset primarily contains barriers that are associated with
1:100,000 scale streams, but does contain a limited number of barriers
associated with 1:24,000 scale streams. Very few culverts are found in this
dataset due to lack of resources to incorporate this information.
ODFW will be working to enhance this dataset over time.
