Description:

Abstract:
This data set is the spatial documentation of the Coos County Offshore Wave Energy Project preliminary permit application. The Project is to be sited in the Pacific Ocean in Coos County, Oregon, just north of the Curry County line and southwest of the City of Bandon. The site is situated within the state boundary in the open ocean about 2 to 4 miles from shore in water depths that range from 20 to 40 fathoms (40 - 75 m). The approximate dimensions of the proposed site are 3 mile wide (east-west direction) by 7.8 miles long (in the north-south direction). The final installed wave facility will require significantly less area than that proposed in the preliminary permit.
Purpose: To document the geospatial location of the preliminary permit application by Coos County Offshore Wave Energy Project.
Supplemental Information:
The Coos County Offshore Wave Energy Project will utilize the kinetic wave energy of the ocean swell for conversion into clean, renewable electricity. The proposed site has the potential of producing around 100 MW or more of electirc power. It is anticipated thate proposed project will cosist of 200-300 PowerBuoys deployed in an array of columns which are oriented paralell to the beach.
